Canoe Drill: Flatwater SlalomThe following flatwater slalom drills are putting all of your previously learned skills to the test. The basis for these drills was inspiration I grabbed from a slalom training website from Davey and Jennifer Hearn: http://www.daveyhearn.com/Whitewater%20Racing/Events%20by%20Season/Pool%20Slalom/pool_course.htm p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } The goals, focus points and tests are the same for all these slalom drills. Set up the environment and have fun.
Goals:
Focus points for this drill: Clean strokes tilt, no body lean
Tests: Go for good speed What's the minimum of strokes you need to do this slalom? Can you do these slaloms backwards? What's your stroke count when you do it backwards
Exercise: Biderectional slalomYou can run this slalom in 2 directions. Either you start top right (as in the image), or top left, both facing down. This changes the turns you need.

Exercise: Tight turns versus wide turns

Exercise: Quick turns without loosing speed

Switch between inside tilt, outside tilt, try carving, pitch, bow corrections, stern corrections. Get a feeling for what works for you and your boat. As a final test, you can combine the above exercise to 1 exercise. Run the figures after each other as 1 big exercise! |
