Title: Solo Open Whitewater Canoeing Type: DVD Where to get: http://www.whitewatervideo.com I personally find this the least inspiring video about canoeing. The setup is like you would see in a normal course. The disadvantage is you can't go out and try the things yourself while you're watching - unless you have a waterproof portable dvd player -. Secondly I don't really like all the demonstrated techniques. Tom is all about bow correction strokes. Now bow correction strokes do have their time and place, but they are not to be used solely, nor do stern correction strokes. Some of his mannoevres really do look awkward since he's using cross-sweeps and other exotic strokes. I believe you have to right stroke to get the job done, and sometimes there are multiple solutions depending on your body-boat-river- ... . Apart from that it is a nice video. It gives some really nice information on certain strokes and gives great tips to do some practicing on your own. The video is divided in chapters, so you can jump to the sections you wan to see. Although not on top of my canoeing-video-list, this one is also worth watching. |
