River Canoeing Instruction

After you've mastered the fundamental canoeing skills and work the 40 hours to make them more or less an automatism, you can progress to river canoeing.

Even when you're not actually planning to go for whitewater paddling, or even never plan to hit the river with your canoe, it's interesting to invest some time into river canoeing. Wind and current come very close to each other, just the same for waves, you can have both on river and lake.

Flatwater

Yes, river canoeing instruction on flatwater. Ideally we start our river canoeing on a lake. There are some specific river manoeuvres and strokes we can perfectly train on, on the lake. And if you can't do them on flatwater, would you be able to do them on the river?

This flatwater session is a short summary of the canoeing fundamentals, and introduces some new strokes and moves with your canoe.

Mild Current

Our river canoeing instruction starts at mild current. You have to get the chance to get used to this new, external factor. A mild current leaves you some room to work that new influence AND still leaves you time to think about what you have to do.

There are 4 basic river manoeuvres to work on. These 4, allow you to get on and off the river easily, and can make river canoeing more fun then just rushing down - which can be fun as well!

Security

We don't want to leave you without any security background, on your own at the river. There are some risks involved to paddling a river, and there are very good precautions and actions to take to avoid accidents. Of course we work on the basic security measurements for river canoeing.

Training, training, training

Again, training. How much and how hard becomes more and more dependent on your personal goals. The further you want to go ins the sport of canoeing, the more advantage you can get from working on your river running skills on easy rivers.

Every river is different, and another water level could change the character of a river drastically. The more experience you get, the easier it will become to anticipate and have fun on the river.

The target of this instruction session is again a big smile on the faces of the participants. All canoes should be able to do these 4 basic river manoeuvres and have fun paddling a canoe on a river. And of course, every one should take enough knowledge at home to continue his own training.

But here again: you're welcome to join one of our trainings as well!
